A Bright Future

For many years, I believed that my dreams of a bright future were shattered. If I couldn’t even tell someone my name, how would I ever go to college, find a job, get married, or be a mommy someday? Now, God is reminding me that I have every reason to dream big. . .and so do you!

Nick Vujicic, a renowned speaker born without arms and legs, said in his autobiography, “Despite my physical limitations, I’m living as though I have no limits” (Vujicic, Life without Limits). As a follower of Christ, I cling to the promise of Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” This verse assures us that we have a bright future in Jesus Christ. No matter what we face in this life, we have the power of God in us to live without limits.

As a little girl, I remember lining up all of my favorite stuffed animals in a row and teaching them history and science. I even had my own pointer, flash cards, and dry erase board! I daydreamed about being a teacher someday, but I’m sure you can imagine how concerned I was about ever achieving that goal. Let’s be honest: a teacher must speak all day long. How will my dream ever come true?

Although I had a passion for teaching, my underlying passion was for little kids. I had a desire to make a difference in their lives. After all, children are our future. Today, the desire to teach remains in my heart, but I am also interested in other careers such as speech pathology, pediatric nursing, or professional writing. Speech pathology has an especially big place in my heart because I have been there. It is my dream to help others in my same position know that they are beautiful just the way they are. However, if God leads me to be a stay-at-home mom to my own little ones someday, my heart would be absolutely full!

Whether a teacher, a speech pathologist, a nurse,  a writer, or a stay-at-home mom, I know that I can trust God for my future. . .and you can too. To our finite minds, our limitations are burdens. To the infinite mind of God, they are opportunities. Dream big, and never lose hope. Your future is resting in the hands of God, and I can assure you it is safe there.
